The super visa is a multiple entry visa that allows parents and grandparents of Canadian permanent residents or citizens to stay in Canada for up to five years at a time, with a total validity of up to 10 years. In order to be eligible for a super visa, the parent or grandparent must be admissible and pass a medical exam, have Canadian medical insurance coverage of at least $100,000 for one year from the date of entry, and have a written financial agreement from the child or grandchild that meets the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) income requirements.

The sponsoring parent must also complete an application to be assessed by immigration. This application is to determine that the parent is an eligible citizen or resident and meets the character criteria to sponsor.
To be eligible for this program, the child must:
- be a dependent child of a parent who is an Australian citizen, eligible New Zealand citizen or holder of an Australian permanent visa
- be under 18 years, a full-time student aged under 25 years and financially dependent on the parent, or over 18 and unable to work due to a disability
- be single and dependent on the parent
If your child is already over 18 years of age, additional assessments must be completed to determine their eligibility before proceeding with any application.
Further – if your child has been adopted since you became an Australian permanent resident or they were a simulated birth, this visa would not be the correct visa for your circumstances. STEPS TO APPLY FOR A CHILD VISA
Subclass 101/802 - Child Visa Application
Confirms their eligibility as a dependent child of the sponsoring parent. The visa applicant will also undergo checks for health and character.

Assessment and approval of the sponsoring parent. Confirms they are an eligible
citizen or permanent resident and that thet meet the character criteria to sponsor a child to enter Australia.
